Dan
Arensmeier's paintings have been accused of being Fauvist, (French for "wild
as beasts") but in his own words, "
. I am an expressionist,
in that I look for the essence of what I am painting - whether that is a
figure, a landscape, a flower, a still life, a vision, a dream or poetry."
As an Expressionist, Arensmeier tries to present emotional experiences in their most compelling form. He is not concerned with reality as it appears but with its inner nature and with the emotions aroused by the subject. To achieve these ends, the subject is frequently caricatured, distorted, and/or presented in violent colors and exaggerated lines in order to stress the emotional experience in its most intense and concentrated form. As
a young man, Arensmeier attended the University of Oregon as a drawing
and painting major. After three years of schooling, he began to pursue
other avenues of life - working in corporate America, starting his own
advertising agency and eventually becoming a partner in another agency.
It was in 1996 that he began pursuing his passion for painting once again.
He completed several corporate collections, was featured in shows and
contracted for commissions, and even painted some garage doors for inspiration.
It was his passion for expression that drew people to his work. Inspired
by friends and colleagues, Arensmeier hosted his first solo exhibition
in January of 2001 at the Schleier Manson in Denver, CO. Resulting in
overwhelming success and high demand, he hosted yet a second successful
exhibition in September of 2001. In addition to The University of Oregon, Arensmeier's education and exposure include:
